Programme Management Skills and Capabilities

Demonstrable experience

• Strong familiarity with all aspects of project management, from planning to activity management, risk management, change control and release management, and acceptance procedures
• Experience in selecting suppliers, negotiating contracts and commercials, running pilot/proof of concept stages, negotiating post live support arrangements, negotiating contract change
• Managing the implementation and commissioning of information systems, establishment of operational units and handover into commercial operation
• Managing large teams (50+ staff) both as direct reports and through supplier teams, large budgets (€25m), remote suppliers (including USA, India and Poland), managing multiple location delivery teams
• Equally, the ability to manage small projects and an appreciation of their position in a wider picture
• Experience of a number of start-up and greenfield projects and companies, and their special needs
• A grounding in several different methodologies, including Prince2 Practitioner certification, and experience of Agile development

Proven attributes and strengths

• A strong communicator, both verbal and written; former conference speaker for Logica Consulting
• Proven ability to work at director level, sound appreciation of commercial management of projects and programmes
• A combination of successful delivery and providing appropriate levels of reporting have led to manages and directors for whom I have worked being ready to engage me again on subsequent projects
• Analytical and forward-looking - able to create strategy and solutions, able to determine the way forward in a crisis, and to co-ordinate and direct reources to resolve problems
• Experience in working for consultancies and software providers, and in managing client accounts to maximise account revenues and customer satisfaction
• A focus on the real goals of programmes - delivering business benefit, not just technology
